Justice League

I really enjoyed the first season of Justice League Unlimited. Lots of great characters, a few clever twists, plenty of cool bad guys. I was really looking forward to Season Two quite a bit.

Wow, what a disappointment. It had all kinds of potential, a secret gathering of villains, General Eiling going rogue, the Hawkgirl-Green Lantern-Vixen triangle, Martian Manhunter on walkabout. How could they screw-up the ending of the series so badly?

Short answer? It was rushed. I seem to recall that at this point Timm and some others were being relatively mistreated by CN, and left to do their own thing.

Sure, much shorter storyline and all that, I get it.

However, that is no reason to completely rob Superman (and the rest of the League) of a meaningful victory in the last episode.

True; it would've been *perfect* had their been a season 3. Sigh. :(

They also had to deal with the fact that Cartoon Network was pushing for more Marvel cartoons at the time, which I suspect was because of Marvel's latest movie successes. Teen Titans also got a raw deal.

I know that Dini was upset that the franchise he had worked so hard for and which was really starting to pay off again was torpedoed out from under him. He mentioned it a bit on his blog.

The last season did feel a little tacked-on, especially after the greatness that preceded it. It did have its moments, however, mostly thanks to Luthor and Grodd.

Knowing the show was being canceled I think took it out of them. The air dates of its "original" airing were a strong hint that they weren't going to be able to pull off the previous season's genius. (Did you watch JLA beforehand?)
